The ninth-grader who went missing and was featured on “Unsolved Mysteries” has been located.

In 2017, while in the care of her non-custodial mother, Heather Unbehaun, 9-year-old Kayla Unbehaun went missing. Today, she is 15 years old.
Unbehaun was permitted supervised visitation, according to Ryan Iserka, who spoke to CNN station WBBM, and was awarded full custody of his daughter, Kayla, in early 2017. According to WBBM’s reporting the following year, however, he discovered that his daughter and her mother hadn’t come back from a camping trip when he went to get her on July 5.

Unbehaun was served with a felony abduction warrant on July 28, 2017, according to a non-profit organization that helps families locate American children who have been taken by family, strangers, or who have escaped. There were around 360,000 complaints of children going missing (including potential duplicates) that were sent to the FBI in 2022, according to the agency.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has posted a picture of nine-year-old Kayla with an age-progression snapshot online after she vanished. In an effort to track Kayla down, the media would sometimes publish pieces about her.
She was rescued because, among other things, she appeared on the Netflix revival of Unsolved Mysteries.
A shop owner who knew Kayla from a recent incident called the police. Kayla, who is now fifteen years old, was placed into protective care after her mother and her were both jailed.
Kayla’s custodial father’s attorney, John Vojta, said that Ezoic Iserka reunited with his daughter in North Carolina on Sunday and the two of them returned to Illinois in the same vehicle.

The Class 4 felony charge of child kidnapping is against Ezoic Unbehaun. Her current bail amount is $250,000. She is expected to be extradited to Illinois.
