Ingredients
For the Bread Pudding
6 cups bread cubes (brioche, challah, or French bread)
2 cups peeled and diced apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith)
3 large eggs
2 cups milk
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
For the Crumble Topping (Optional)
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup brown sugar
3 tbsp cold butter, cut into small pieces
½ tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Base
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
Place the bread cubes and diced apples in the prepared dish and gently toss to combine.
2️⃣ Make the Custard
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
Pour the custard evenly over the bread and apples.
Press down gently so the bread absorbs the liquid.
3️⃣ Prepare the Crumble Topping (Optional)
In a small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle evenly over the bread pudding.
4️⃣ Bake
Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
5️⃣ Serve
Serve warm as is, or with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a scoop of ice cream for extra indulgence.
Recipe Notes
Use slightly stale bread for best texture; it absorbs the custard better.
Firmer apple varieties help maintain pieces in the pudding.
Make ahead tip: Assemble the pudding the night before, cover, and refrigerate; bake the next day adding 10–15 minutes to the cooking time.
