“My mom used to make these for us. Now my neighbor brings it over”

This classic side dish features tender pearl onions bathed in a rich and creamy sauce. Perfect for holiday dinners or a special weeknight meal.

 

Ingredients:
Ingredient Quantity
Frozen pearl onions 24 oz
Butter 3 tablespoons
Flour 3 tablespoons
Vegetable broth ¾ cup
Heavy cream ¾ cup
Nutmeg ¼ teaspoon
Parmesan cheese, grated ½ cup
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Prepare Onions: Cook frozen pearl onions in boiling water for 3-5 minutes. Drain.
Make Roux: Melt butter in a skillet, whisk in flour until golden and bubbly.

Create Cream Sauce: Gradually whisk in vegetable broth and heavy cream until thickened and smooth.

Season Sauce: Stir in nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Add half the Parmesan cheese.
Combine Onions and Sauce: Combine cooked onions with cream sauce.
Bake: Transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese. Bake at 375°F for 15-20 minutes.
Serve: Let cool slightly before serving.
