My Amish friend showed me this “Poor Man’s Steak” recipe. It’s so good. How come I don’t feel poor eating it?

he recipe calls for 2 pounds of ground beef.

1/2 onion, diced

1 cup of saltine cracker crumbles

measuring one cup of milk

1 and a half cups of flour

half a teaspoon of powdered garlic

30 milliliters of butter

Toss with salt and pepper.

In regard to the gravy:

1-2 cans of mushroom soup with a cream base

3/4 cup of milk

Turn the oven on high heat (350°F).

2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, milk, chopped onion, salt, black pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, and crushed saltine crackers. Blend everything together by mixing it well.

3. Using a style reminiscent to classic steaks, form the ingredients into patties that are either oval or rectangular in shape.

4. Shake off any excess flour and coat each patty.

5. While heating a large pan over medium-high heat, melt the butter.

Step 6: Brown the coated patties in a pan over medium heat, approximately 3 minutes on each side. Lay the patties aside after you’ve removed them. (The only purpose of this is to provide taste and color.)

7. Put in a greased 9×13 baking dish. Pour gravy sauce over patties after mixing it in a basin.

8. Bake for half an hour with the foil on top. Bake without the lid for a further 10 minutes.

Indulge in the rustic charm of this Amish favorite, where wholesome ingredients meld to produce a delectable meal that the whole household will like.
